Helicopter Accident

SAFETY

All too often it is easy for us to become complacent in our hobby when it comes to safety.  The following was submitted by CRCS Club Member, Paul Reeder, regarding a recent accident a fellow R/C hobbyist  and friend  had while trying to adjust his R/C helicopter:

"Paul,

Please do.  That was the main reason I posted it to begin with.  Wanted people to see that these things really do happen.  Just make sure the story doesn't get embellished.

It was a Trex 500 ESP.  Using a Spektrum DX7 and AR6200.  It was not flying.  It was on the ground, spun up at 80% throttle with 0 pitch (Mid stick in Norm).  I was 15 feet away.  I was troubleshooting an electrical issue so I wasn't even going to get it light.  Then WAM!  She jumped, and closed the distance so fast I barely could react.

The injuries suffered:
My nose was all but completely severed.  Suffered a 9mm tear just above the pupil of my right eye.  Multiple lacerations to my right cheek, right eye brow, left hand, upper left arm, and right shoulder.  Plus a lot of bruises.

Anyway, go right ahead and use the pic and story.  Hopefully it will make people think first.”
